Grade 10 Planetary Motion

Kepler's 3rd law can be written mathematically as (P1P2)2=(R1R2)3. It is a comparison of data about 2 planets. However, if we use Earth as one of the planets, we can write the formula as P2=R3. Explain what the variables P and R stand for, what units we usually use to measure them, and why using Earth makes the equation more simple.
