Nationalism and the Pan African movement played a role in this country's independence from Britain, but not in the peaceful way that is was designed to. It ended in an extremely violent, seven year long struggle. Independence here resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands of Black Africans. This country finally became an independent nation in 1963.
