Recognizing Lines of Symmetry

Symmetry - Butterfly 1 Introduction: Take a piece of paper and fold it in down the middle so each half of the paper matches up exactly. Now, unfold the paper. The fold line you created is a line (axis) of symmetry. 

A line of symmetry is any line that divides a figure into matching parts. 

Next, fold the piece of paper so the two parts do not match up. The fold you created is not a line of symmetry. Can you create more than one line of symmetry with your paper? Go ahead, give it a try!
