Suffix -LY

Look at the picture. Does it show a knight bravely fighting a dragon?

To figure out the answer, you have to think about the meaning of the word bravely. The word bravely has to parts: brave and ly. In the word bravely, -ly is the suffix.

A suffix is a group of letters that is added to the end of a word. A suffix changes the meaning of the word.

The suffix -ly describes how something is done. So the word bravely means done with bravery or done in a brave way.

In the case of the picture, the knight is not bravely fighting the dragon.
