Suffix -IBLE

Suffix -IBLE

Imagine you're talking to someone and he or she says, "I'm sorry, that wasn't audible, could you please repeat it?" If you didn't know what the word audible meant, you could look at the parts of the word to figure out the meaning.

AUDIBLE  has two parts: aud and ible. Aud is a root word that relates to sound. Ible is a suffix that means "able" or "able to be".

A suffix is a group of letters that is added to the end of a word. It changes the meaning of the word.

In the case of the word audible, you could use the suffix -ible to know that the word means able to be heard.
