Couplets

Couplets

One of the most commonly-used forms in poetry may be the couplet. Poets love to use couplets throughout their writing to express ideas. Some use them in every line. Others place them at the end of the poem.

Take a look at a few famous couplets:

"Be not the first by whom the new are tried,
Nor yet the last to lay the old aside."

"Singing he was, or fluting all the day;
He was as fresh as is the month of May."

"How like Eve's apple doth thy beauty grow,
If thy sweet virtue answer not thy show!"

There's just something appealing about a well-written couplet. To learn more about couplets, why they are so popular, and how they are formed, watch the short video below.
