Oh, sorry, I accidentally left my grocery list there. Have you ever made a grocery list or another type of list? If so, you shouldn't have any trouble writing a list poem.
A list poem is a poem written as a list. However, it's a little more complex than just writing out a grocery list. When you create a list poem, you consciously place items in a list in order to create a poem with a deeper meaning.
You can write list poems about a variety of topics, including:
- Events in your life
- Events or periods in history
- Topics in math, science, or social studies
- People in your life
- Emotions
To write a list poem, first come up with a subject and title for your poem.
Example:
Things I Miss About You (A poem about my best friend)
Then come up with a list of items:
Your laugh
Days at the pool
Your smile
Going to the mall
Your house
Your crazy fashion sense
Your car
Your incredible brain
Your face
Your extreme honesty
Your dog
How you help me with my homework
My best friend
Then choose items from your list to turn into a poem.
Things I Miss About You
Your laugh
Your smile
Your crazy fashion sense
Your incredible brain
Your extreme honesty
Being your best friend
In that poem, the poet lists things she misses about her best friend. She starts short and then makes them a little more specific.
Now that you know all about list poems, try your hand at writing one of your own.
