Visual puns like this are just one type of word play. 

Word play involves playing with the sounds and meanings of words to tell a joke, make a point, or add interest to a piece of writing.You'll find word play in poems, raps, newspaper headlines, and even in crossword puzzle clues. Some types of word play are easy to do, while others take a lot of skill.
