Have you ever noticed that poets love to play around with sound? Poets use sound to add another layer of interest and meaning to their poems.

They may use words like CRACK! or HISS! to mimic actual sounds people can hear. They might use phrases like "Tread on tiptoe through the trees" to bring in some alliteration.

There are many different ways poets bring sound into their poems. They do it by using sound devices.
