Prefixes: Numbers 10 through One Billion

Prefixes: Numbers 10 through One Billion

How do you know how long a decade is? How about a millennium? You can tell by looking at the prefixes in the words.

A prefix is a word or group of letters that comes at the beginning of a word and hints at it's meaning. Sometimes prefixes can also represent numbers.

Prefixes are how you know a unicycle has one wheel, a bicycle has two wheels, and a tricycle has three wheels. They're also how you can tell a difference between a decade and the millennium.

The practice questions and video below will introduce you to some common prefixes to represent the numbers 10; 100; 1,000; 1,000,000; and 1,000,000,000.
