When you first hear the word thesaurus, you might think it's a type of dinosaur.Actually, a thesaurus is a book of words. However, a thesaurus is not the same thing as a dictionary. Instead of being full of definitions, a thesaurus is full of synonyms.
A synonym is a word or phrase that has exactly the same meaning as another word or phrase.
When you're writing a paper or preparing a speech and want to find the perfect word, pull out a thesaurus and look for a synonym!
