Solar System Introduction

Solar System Introduction

Introduction: The solar system is our galactic neighborhood. Think of your home as Earth. Our solar system is the neighborhood where you live. The Milky Way Galaxy is then like the city or town where your neighborhood is located.

Our solar system is the Sun and all of the objects that orbit around it. This includes planets, moons, asteroids, comets, and anything else revolving around the Sun. The Sun is the largest and most massive object in the solar system. Its gravitational pull keeps these smaller objects orbiting it.

Our solar system is special because it is where we live, but it isn't the only solar system out there! Hundreds of other solar systems have been discovered and many more will follow. Although the solar system is our home, we are still discovering new planetary bodies and objects in it!

Directions for This Lesson: In this lesson, you will learn about the objects that make up our solar system. First, try the practice questions. Then, watch the video lesson and try the activity to further explore our solar system.
