Rutherford Atomic Model #1 Introduction: Electrons are the negatively charged particles surrounding the nucleus of the atom. The exist in different levels of energy called rings, with each ring being able to hold a different number of electrons.

The diagram above shows one of the models that was created to describe the structure of an atom and the position of the electrons.
