Have you ever had to make an important decision? If you have, you may have had someone tell you to "sleep on it."
When you're told to sleep on a decision, it doesn't mean you have to write that decision down and put it under your pillow. It just means you should wait a day or two before coming up with your answer.
Phrases like "sleep on it" are idioms.
Idioms are expressions with meanings that can not be figured out by looking at their individual words.
Some idioms you may have heard include:
- It's raining cats and dogs
- Don't put all your eggs in one basket
- Pull the wool over his eyes
- Let sleeping dogs lie
