Types of Sentences

When you have something to say, you can do it in many different ways.

If you want to know information, you ask a question.
If you want to give information, you tell about it.
If you want to order someone around, you give a command.
If you want to show you are excited, you exclaim it.

However you decide to say it, you must use a sentence.

There are four types of sentences. They include:
  • asking (interrogative)
  • telling (declarative)
  • commands (imperative)
  • exclamations (exclamatory)

Each one serves a different purpose. The practice questions and video below will help you learn how and when to use each of the sentence types.
