What are Adverbs?

"My backpack is really heavy," Ricky complained loudly. "I am completely worn out. I simply cannot carry my backpack anymore!"
Poor Ricky. It seems like his backpack is too heavy. How do I know? Because Ricky used adverbs like really, loudly, completely, and simply to intensify his feelings.
Adverbs are a part of speech called intensifiers. Adverbs modify verbs, adjectives, and other adverbs. Adverbs also help show where, how, when, and the extent to which something happened.
