Fragments and Run-On Sentences
Fragments and Run-On Sentences

A basic sentence contains the following elements: a subject, a verb, and an object. However, as writers start to create trickier sentences, they often forget to include all of the elements or they include too many of the elements.
When that happens, the sentence is BROKEN.
A sentence that is missing an important element is called a fragment.
- Running down the street.
- The cat named Furball.
A sentence that includes too many of the elements is called a run-on sentence.
- Running down the street Erica waved hello to her friends then headed off to school where she would see them again.
- The cat named Furball ate its food then it played with its ball.
