Action, Linking, and Helping Verbs

Action, Linking, and Helping Verbs

Person - Medium This is Sara. I want to write a few sentences that describe Sara. To do that, I know I need adjectives and nouns, so I'll use them write a few things about Sara:

Sara pretty. Sara a green dress. Sara a girl.

Hmm... I sound like a caveman! What is wrong with my sentences?

Oh, that's right! I'm missing verbs! I'll just go ahead and add them in.

Sara is pretty. Sara wears a green dress. Sara is a girl.

Verbs are a necessary - and very important - part of a sentence.   There are three types of verbs that are regularly used as part of sentences: action, linking, and helping verbs.

Watch the video to learn more about the three types of verbs and how they're used in a sentence.
