General - Cake Do you know someone with a birthday coming up? Why not make them a cake? Making a birthday cake for someone is a special way to tell them happy birthday.

To make a birthday cake, the first thing you need is a cake mix.

Buy a box of cake mix. Follow the directions on the package to mix up the cake mix. Pour the cake mix into two or three round cake pans that have been greased and floured. Bake them according to the directions on the box.

Once the cakes have baked, take them out of the oven and let them cool. Be sure they are cooled completely before moving on to the next step.

After cooling the cakes, take one cake and flip the pan over onto a plate. If you greased and floured the pan, the cake should come right out. Open a container of frosting. Use a butter knife to spread the frosting all over the top of the cake.

Next, take the second cake and flip the pan over on top of the first cake. Make sure it is lined up so it fits directly on top of the cake.

Take your container of icing and spread icing on the top of the second cake. Then spread icing on the sides of the cakes. You may need more than one container to get the job done.

Once you have iced your cake, it's time to decorate. You can decorate the cake however you like. You may choose to top it with sprinkles or use a tube of colored icing to write a special message. You can also add candy or fruit to make the birthday cake extra-special.
