"Gentlemen, I propose that today we vote on the Declaration of Independence."

The room went silent. Vote on the Declaration of Independence? Was the man insane? They weren't ready to make that decision. Nevertheless, Thomas Jefferson was resolute.

"Come on, let's vote," he said again.

This passage is an example of historical fiction.

Historical fiction is a genre of fiction that focuses on the past. In historical fiction, the people, places, and events may be based on real people, places, and events, but the details may be made up or exaggerated.
