What do all of these words have in common? Two things:
- They all describe something that happens before something else
- They all contains the prefix PRE-
A prefix is an affix, an element of grammar, that attaches to the beginning of a word. When a prefix is added to the beginning of the word, it changes its meaning. For example, when you add the prefix pre- to the word view, you get the word preview which means to view something before.
There are many different prefixes and they all change words in different ways. The practice questions and video below will introduce you to a few of them.
